Ability-Related Fairness

(Fairness in the Recognition and Development of Abilities)
Ability-related fairness describes the educational and societal goal of enabling all people—regardless of their individual or social background, gender, culture, and health status—the opportunity to recognize, develop, and contribute their individual (high) abilities.

Ability-related fairness also includes the rights of gifted individuals to receive individualized support.

Abilities may remain hidden, for example, due to language barriers, learning difficulties, a lack of effective learning strategies, or institutional structures. Awareness of such barriers among early childhood educators, teachers, parents, and others in children's environments, as well as the recognition and support of abilities—independent of labels or structural constraints—in early childhood education settings, schools, and counseling contexts, make an important contribution to greater ability-related fairness.
