Competence
-
Competence is the connection between knowledge and skills, representing an observable or measurable ability. It equips learners to respond to (new) demands that require action. The development of new competencies builds on prior experiences, previously learned knowledge, and acquired skills.
Competencies encompass, in addition to technical competencies, methodological, social, and personal skills, which are demonstrated across various contexts, such as school, specific subject areas like science, and social interactions. They are essential for successful (lifelong) learning and education and play a crucial role in developing individual abilities.
