Learning Disorders
-
Learning disorders are neurologically based developmental disorders. Affected children and adolescents experience persistent and severe difficulties in learning to read, write, spell, or perform arithmetic. Despite these difficulties, their general cognitive ability is not impaired.
Even children and adolescents with above-average cognitive potential can have a learning disorder. Referred to as “twice exceptional”, they frequently experience underachievement.
